Paris,  Things To Do

A puppet play at La Cachette

Today is a rainy day. But since it’s Wednesday, I wanted to do something nice with my children.

Mostly for my 3-year-old daughter since she is struggling with her new situation (younger brother, no nanny anymore, kindergarten, etc.).

The weather was too bad to go to a playground or a park. So we decided to go to a puppet show in the 13th.

We arrived a little late due to traffic – I still haven’t gotten used to Parisian traffic let alone Parisian traffic on a rainy day! The staff was really nice and showed my daughter directly to her seat.

Where is La Cachette and how do I get there?

It’s a theatre on 124 avenue d’Italie – 75013 Paris. The theatre is close to Place d’Italie so you can get there easily by Metro M5, M6 or M7. Other close stations are M°Tolbiac, M°Maison Blanche and M°Olympiades. You can also use their very own underground parking space (4€ with booking).

Don’t worry, it’s easy to find. Just read the instructions on where to find the parking before going there.

What is La Cachette?

It’s a theatre that shows a puppet play almost every day of the week, sometimes only on Wednesdays and on weekends. The time of the show is kids friendly. We went at 4 pm right after our afternoon nap.

They show a play for 2-3 months. The age group is 2-8 years.

The group behind the theatre La Cachette calls themself “3 Chardons”.

First, you walk through a courtyard and enter a hall where you can find the front desk and which is nicely decorated. You have a wardrobe for your coat and a space to park your buggy.

Then you are seated in a cosy theatre with wooden benches and enough spare space for adult legs.

What about the play?

We went to see Tchico, a play about an Indian boy in search of the blue mountain where the wise Indians live. To get there he has to cross the hot desert, the dark and dense forest and a torrential river. Luckily, with the help of friends, you can accomplish anything.

The scene of the play is kept simple yet colourful and the puppets are just beautiful. I loved the balance between narration, play, music and the participation of the children. It is very different from a Guignol play! Everyone, children, adults and even my baby were captivated by the play. And the children were happy to participate by singing songs.

All in all, I very much recommend going to this theatre with young children. They – and you – won’t be disappointed.
